through our IAM/Boeing Joint Apprenticeship Program, for Model
Maker Apprenticeship in the Puget Sound region in Washington
State!This comprehensive 4-year apprenticeship is 8,000 hours in
length and includes paid on-the-job training and required unpaid
classroom education. The first 20% of the on-the-job training is a
probationary period. Apprentices attend school for a minimum of 144
unpaid hours per school year registered through a local Community
and Technical College. Apprentice wages are defined in Article 17
of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the International
Association of Machinists District 751 and The Boeing Company.
Apprentices advance one wage progression step for every 1000
apprenticeship on the job training hours recorded until completion.
Graduates are placed in the target job at the maximum rate and
receive a journey-worker Certificate and Card - recognized
worldwide.We are excited to offer an apprenticeship opportunity for
aspiring Model Makers. As an apprentice, you will gain hands-on
experience and develop the skills necessary to become a proficient
Journey Level graduate of our program. You will learn to machine,
fabricate, and assemble high-quality aircraft models and components
that meet close tolerance specifications for wind tunnel testing,
working with a variety of materials including metals, plastics, and
composites. Your training will encompass not only conventional and
NC machine operation but also the use of precision measuring tools,
plaster and plastic tooling, layout techniques, basic electronics,
numerical machine programming, model construction, assembly,
testing, and wind tunnel maintenance. Join us to kickstart your

previously enrolled in or completed an IAM/Boeing Joint
Apprenticeship program.Application Instructions:To ensure your

math assessments, please include your assessment score and the
corresponding course placement results (course number and

- Proficiency in math and English must be verified through one of
the following:
- Completing Intermediate Algebra or a higher-level math course
within the last 5 years.
- Completion of an English course with a grade of 90 or
better.Documentation: At the time of application, provide
documentation for all completed courses, test challenges,
certificates, and degree programs.Qualification for Blueprint
Reading and Precision Measuring Tools: You can meet the
qualifications through one of the following methods, which will be
verified via your resume, work history, and transcripts:Vocational
Courses:
- Basic Blueprint Reading or equivalent
- Basic Precision Measuring Tools or equivalent
- Milling Machine (a course minimum of 80 hours, or 5 or more
credits)
- Lathe (a course minimum of 80 hours, or 5 or more
credits)Relevant Work Experience: A minimum of one year of work
experience in a similar field, such as:
- Boring Mills (Vertical, Horizontal)
- EDM Operator (Wire Feed, Non-Wire Feed)
- Electrical (Elementary)
- Grinding (Internal, External, Surface, Thread)
- Heat Treat
- Inspection, Machine/Detail Fabrication
- Jig Bore, Jig Grinder
- Lathes (Conventional, NC, CNC, Turret)
- Machine Layout
- Mills (Conventional, NC, CNC, Profile)
- Model Construction (Finish, Install, Test)
- Part Railing, Saws
- Remote Terminal
- Trade-related Bench Work
- Wind Tunnel MaintenancePosition Responsibilities:
- Machine, fabricate, and assemble close tolerance, high-quality
aircraft models and components for wind tunnel testing.
- Construct models using metals, plastics, and composite
materials.
- Participate in the Model Maker apprenticeship, which includes:
- Conventional and NC machine operation training
- Use of precision measuring tools
- Plaster and plastic tooling techniques
- Layout and elementary electronics
- Numerical machine programming
- Model construction and assembly
- Testing and wind tunnel maintenancePhysical Demands and
Potential Hazards:
- Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging
from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.
- Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling,
turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending,
kneeling, crouching, and squatting.
- Work in environments that may involve contact with metals,
solvents, and coolants.
- Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters,
and potential slipping hazards.
- Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.
- Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms,
and feet while performing job duties.This position must meet Export
Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined
by 22 C.F.R. - 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen,
lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee This position is
expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required
to work onsite at one of the listed location options. Basic
qualifications/requirements:
- Experience doing jobs or tasks where you had to apply math
skills such as: algebra, geometry and/or trigonometry.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Experience reading engineering blueprints and drawings.
- Experience working with precision measuring tools.
- High school graduate or GED
- Experience operating manual mill and manual lathe
machinesTypical Education & Experience:High school graduate or
