Responsibilities
Job Summary / Purpose
This job is responsible for supporting efforts to to provide a safe
and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff at
Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (VMFH) facilities. An incumbent is
responsible for performing a full range of security-related
activities designed to protect persons, property and equipment from
volatile individuals, unauthorized access or hazards. An incumbent
supports on-site teams, performing security monitoring, access
control and asset protection responsibilities remotely for sites
across VMFH.
Work also includes: 1) monitoring cameras and alarms; 2)
dispatching emergent and non-emergent calls via telephone and/or
radio; 3) operating access control technology; and 4) supporting
on- and off site operations in support of a safe environment. The
Security Operations Center Operator supports on site teams,
performs security monitoring, access control and asset protection
responsibilities remotely for sites around the region. An incumbent
makes decisions dictated by policy or procedure (e.g.
code/disaster/fire response), also including whether to provide
access to secured areas, remove individuals from the property and
when to contact law enforcement authorities.
Work requires strong customer service skills, routine use of
computers to draft reports, monitor cameras systems and navigate
access control applications. Strong proficiency with multiple
computer and software systems is required.
The position requires shift and weekend work involving significant
periods of sitting, standing and walking.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
Operates equipment including, but not limited to, cellular/radio
communications, electronic security systems, fire command systems
and other equipment related to life-safety and security equipment
currently in use by the VMFH Security Department; monitors tools
and equipment to assure they are in proper working order; reports
and follows up on issues per established procedures.
Deploys assets remotely to support on-site teams in response to
life safety incidents (medical, safety, natural disasters, etc.)
and dispatches security officers, ERT, facilities, police, fire and
EMS personnel as required via telephone and/or radio.

Monitors alarms and video equipment including closed circuit
television (CCTV), fire alarms, door alarms, access control system
alarms and duress alarms and uses approved methods to identify
unusual activity on grounds or vicinity and to manage incidents in
a timely manner; conducts surveillance close watch whenever
requested for investigations as needed
Responds to internal alarms, emergent incidents, evaluates
circumstances, and acts as a liaison with the appropriate persons;
provides response and service in a friendly, courteous and
professional manner with strong focus on patient satisfaction;
exhibits professionalism and good judgment in daily interactions
with patients, visitors and staff.
Elevates, to higher level authority, safety concerns noted during
patrol activity; incidents/follow-up investigations of a sensitive
matter; incidents that involve police response and action;
disruptive incidents involving patients and/or access requests that
are non-routine and involve restricted areas and incidents
involving employee issues.
Monitors and supports all emergency situations; implements
emergency procedures as situations dictate or as directed;
participates in ongoing security training, remains current with
security trends and technologies.
Performs remote monitoring activities to detect/identify theft,
criminal and/or suspicious activity; reports suspected criminal
activity to on-site security teams and authorities.
Receives and conducts preliminary inquiries into complaints of
criminal activity; prepares incident reports; gathers evidence;
locates witnesses; assists and/or serves as a liaison to Police,
Fire and EMS where applicable.
Interfaces with law enforcement in respect to criminal activities;
summons law enforcement authorities, when situation dictates, in
keeping with VMFH procedures; may provide assistance to law
enforcement authorities, including giving testimony in court and
other administrative hearings.
Collaborates with other internal VMFH business units regarding
incident reports related to theft, urgent terminations, medical
incidents, asset management, etc.
Communicates and disseminates information to key partners using
established communication vehicles/practices; exports video for
review; initiates and maintains various reports/records of
communications and events; completes reports via automated
reporting system; initiates incident reports and work orders as
required.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Two years' work experience in security, healthcare, or related law
enforcement / military experience that demonstrates attainment of
the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities.
Or any equivalent combination of education and experience which
provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform
the essential functions of the position may be substituted for the
degree requirement.
Successful completion organizational sponsored Basic Life Support
(BLS) training (re-certification bi-annually).
Pay Range
$24.59 - $33.81 /hour
